This July, West Cork Volleyball Club will take a major step in its young history as 11 players and 4 volunteers travel to Portugal to compete in the AMB Volleyball Tournament, widely recognised as the largest youth volleyball tournament in the world.
For one exciting week, our players will join thousands of young athletes from across Europe and beyond, representing not only our club but also West Cork and Ireland on the international stage.
For many of these girls, this will be their first experience competing abroad. They will have the opportunity to play against teams from different countries, learn from new experiences, make lifelong memories, and develop both as athletes and as young people.
What makes this journey even more remarkable is how far the club has come in such a short time. West Cork Volleyball Club was founded in 2024 with the goal of bringing volleyball opportunities to our community. Today, we have growing youth and adult programmes and are proud to be taking a team to one of the most prestigious youth volleyball events in the world.
The AMB Tournament is about much more than winning matches. It is about cultural exchange, friendship, teamwork, confidence, and inspiring young athletes to dream bigger. Experiences like this can have a lasting impact on a player’s development and help foster a lifelong love of sport.
Our hope is that this trip will be the first of many. We would love to create an annual pathway that allows future generations of West Cork players to experience international volleyball and all the opportunities that come with it.
As you can imagine, taking a group of players abroad involves significant costs, including travel, accommodation, tournament fees, transport, and equipment. We are incredibly grateful for the support we have already received from families, local businesses, sponsors, and members of our community.
